A Soft Place To Land
by Brian K. Hahn

English
Religion & Spirituality - Christianity

This podcast is a soft place to land. Brian Hahn keeps the mic on the Gospel and off the anger that has taken over so many rooms. The conversations are faith-based, always encouraging, and built for people who still believe the Redeemer meets them on the hard road. No party line. No score-settling. Just a word that can ride with you through the other six days.

A Spool of Wire

Published: Oct, 9th, 2026 at 10:30 AM

There is a kind of grief that does not look like a funeral. A man sits down with something he has used for a long time. A spool of wire almost gone. A knife that will not take another edge. A truck key that wore the pocket thin. Boots that finally failed in the same crease. He is not writing a journal. He is holding what is left. And the thing in his hands starts telling the truth he has been too busy to say.

Brian Hahn sits with that object. Forty years can live in a thing nobody else thinks is holy. The years are not in the cardboard. They are in the work that went out with the wire. Fence. Motor. Boat. Shop. The quiet jobs that never made a speech. When the roll runs low, the calendar becomes visible. Fear can look like thrift. A man can hoard the last coil and call it wisdom. He can also burn the last of it on nothing and call it living. Both miss the same Lord.

Moses did not ask for a longer spool. He asked for a heart that could tell time. A mist is still real while it hangs in the morning light. It is not less precious because it will lift. It is more precious because it will. An old tool can tell the truth. It cannot save you. Purpose is not the same thing as usefulness. Scripture honours work. It will not let work sit in God’s chair. You can spend forty honest years and still need mercy at the end of them. You can also waste forty years and still be met by mercy, if you will come.

The Cross is not a longer spool. The Gospel is not that you get more wire. The Son of God spent His life on purpose, and none of it was wasted, and He finished the work you cannot finish. Your spool will empty. His work does not. You will not finish every job. You are not required to. You are required to belong to the One who finished the only work that saves.

This is not a debate and it is not a rally. A Soft Place to Land is a faith-based conversation that is encouraging and unhurried — a safe space from political anger. You do not have to fake fine. You do not have to keep the last coil as proof you were here.

One sentence to carry out of the room: This is what’s left. It is not nothing. It is not everything. It is enough to bring.

If the object undoes you, let it. Take the melancholy to God before you take it back to work and bury it. Do not wait for the perfect listener. Love the people in reach. Repair what you broke. If most of the wire is already gone, you may be late to some of the work. You are not late to Christ.

The written word behind this conversation lives at jaxsonharlan.com, under the title “This Is What’s Left.” There is a song there too. Come back next time. We will keep the light on.

Hosted by Brian Hahn. From Jaxson Harlan Ministry / Jaxson Radio.

May you go from here unhurried. May you remember you are held. And if an old object undoes you before Friday, may you bring the empty roll and the coil that is left. The Cross is not a longer spool. It is a finished work. And it is enough.

The Court You Keep

Published: Oct 7, 2026 at 10:30 AM

The first clean morning is not always peace. Sometimes it is sight. Mercy has spoken. Then you drag the file back in and open court anyway.

God closed the case. The second judge is often you. Saul gets his sight and the old life is still in the frame. Paul can call himself the worst and still be appointed. Peter meets a charcoal fire and a question, not a gavel. A woman ruins a dinner with her tears and is told to go in peace. David asks for joy. John Newton looks back once, as a pattern, not a performance. None of them is asked to out-judge the Judge who bled for them.

You will hear it in a lot of rooms: you have to forgive yourself. It sounds merciful. It is not in the Book. Confess. Repent. Come. There is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ. Consequences may still be on the lawn. Condemnation is not the same thing. Do not build a second gallows after God has taken the first one down.

This is not a debate and it is not a rally. A Soft Place to Land is a faith-based conversation, encouraging and unhurried — a safe space from political anger. You do not have to finish paying. Come down off the bench.

He closed the case. I do not have to keep the court.

If the old file opens again, tell one wise believer. Not a crowd. Not the internet. A pardoned person is allowed to serve, to sing, and to sleep.

May you go from here unhurried. Leave the gavel on the table. The hillside still has a cross on it.

Picked Up

Published: Sep 30, 2026 at 11:41 PM

About eighteen months ago Brian Hahn was told he had terminal cancer. Radiation. Chemo. A surgery that took his esophagus and joined his stomach to his throat. A hundred and ten pounds gone.

Complications that could have ended the story there. He lives with an early expiry date over his head. He is not asking anyone to feel sorry for him. He does not feel pity. He does not feel real fear. What he feels is this: he started a ministry at thirty-four, and he is not done.

This episode is not a medical chart and it is not an inspiration poster. The cancer opens the door. The real room is what happened next. After a lifetime of feeling like the black sheep — the outsider, almost invisible — people picked him up. His wife stayed. His daughters stayed. Neighbours, community, doctors and nurses treated his life as if it still mattered. The thief did not get to steal the fact that he was loved. And it did not get to steal the work.

One sentence to carry out of the room: I live with an expiry date. I was picked up anyway. The work is not finished.

If you are the one who is sick: tell one safe person the true sentence. Not the brave version. I am tired. I need you. I am still here. If you are standing next to someone who is sick: do not wait for the perfect thing to say. Say, I am here. Then stay.

This is not a debate and it is not a rally. A Soft Place to Land is a faith-based conversation that is encouraging and unhurried — a safe space from political anger. You do not have to perform bravery. You can receive help without becoming small.

May you go from here unhurried. May you remember you are held. And if there is a date on your calendar you did not choose, may it not get the last word.

Were You In That Crowd?

Published: Sep 30, 2026 at 9:58 PM

Simon of Cyrene is walking toward Jerusalem when the roar starts. A Man has fallen in the street under a beam too heavy for a body already broken. The crowd is loud. The look in the Man’s eyes is not.

Brian Hahn sits with that road and tells the truth the hill still asks. This is a narration he first delivered about twenty years ago, shaped by Peter Marshall’s old question — were you there? On this episode the answer is not abstract. We were in that crowd. The merchants. The mothers. The fathers. The ones who wanted a different kind of king. The ones who thought they were only passing through. And the Man on the stones still looks at us with love.

This is not a debate and it is not a rally. A Soft Place to Land is a faith-based conversation that is encouraging and unhurried — a safe space from political anger. You do not have to audition. You do not have to decorate your confession. You do not have to earn the look. You can receive it.

One sentence to carry out of the room: I was in that crowd. I am still looked at with love. If you have no safe person to say that to yet, this show can hold the first half of it. Say it in the car. Write it on a card. Let it sit. Then receive the second sentence.
